Signs your boiler needs service.

  • No heat, or heat in some rooms and not others
  • Banging or hammering pipes when the steam comes up
  • The boiler shuts off and resets, or locks out
  • Water on the floor, a dripping relief valve or a pressure gauge in the red
  • Radiators that stay cold at the top or never get hot
  • A pilot or burner that will not stay lit

Steam or hot water changes the fix.

Most Queens boilers fall into two families. Steam systems, common in pre-war houses and co-ops in Astoria, Jackson Heights and Forest Hills, push steam through one- or two-pipe radiators and depend on the right water level, working air vents and correctly pitched pipes. Hot-water systems, common in later houses, pump water through baseboard or radiators and depend on pressure, the expansion tank and the circulator. We confirm which one you have first, because the same symptom points to different causes.

What a repair visit covers.

  • Check the water level, low-water cutoff and pressure controls
  • Inspect the burner, ignition and flame safety
  • Look for leaks at the boiler, valves and visible piping
  • Test thermostats and zone valves on hot-water systems
  • Explain what we found and give you a price before any work starts

Gas work, done by the book.

When a repair involves gas piping, or the boiler itself needs replacing, New York City requires a Licensed Master Plumber to do and file the work. That work is done and filed by a Licensed Master Plumber, so you get the right permits and one point of contact.

Repair or replace?

Most boiler problems are repairs. If the boiler is cracked, leaking from the heat exchanger or well past its service life, we will tell you plainly and walk you through replacement, including whether a heat pump could carry part of the load with the boiler as backup.

Your questions, answered.

How much does boiler repair cost in Queens?+

It depends on the cause. We diagnose first and give you a price before any work starts, so you decide before paying for a repair.

My radiators bang every morning. Is that dangerous?+

Banging usually means water is trapped in a steam pipe or the boiler is overfilled. It is rarely dangerous on its own, but it means the system needs adjusting. If you also see water leaking or the pressure gauge is high, shut the boiler off and call us.

I rent my apartment. Who fixes the boiler?+

In most Queens rentals the landlord is responsible for heat. NYC heat season runs October 1 to May 31: when it is below 55°F outside during the day, apartments must be at least 68°F from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., and at least 62°F overnight. If you are the owner, call us to restore heat.
